There is an obvious limitation. Expected models are only as good as their inputs and assumptions. They may account for location and pressure while missing a player’s manipulation of defenders, the timing of a run or the tactical instruction that created the opening. The most important movement in a match often happens before the ball arrives.

This is where simplistic rankings become unreliable. The same event can carry different value depending on tactical context.

Agents will continue to package form into narratives, and public statements will continue to turn negotiation into performance art. The sensible response is to follow the evidence.
